St. Rogue Red Ale

I nice aroma mixed with malt and hops. A true red in color, and thick malt flavor, but light on the palate. It claims to be dry hopped, but there is no flavor, only a soothing bitterness. This would be great for a BBQ, I think. No IBU or alcohol % listed, and don't pray to the Saint without your church key.

Shipyard IPA

I had planned on this beer as being my first "skunk" rating, after drinking a bottle a few weeks ago. Last night I found the courage to try a second, and two more today have proved my original feeling wrong. Maybe it was a bad bottle. Still, this is nothing to write home about (OK, so why am I?) with a real lack of hop flavor for an IPA, and check out that white afro! When I go India, it is because I want hops up the nose - hell up the wazoo. This delivers none, maybe because it is based on Fuggles? Not sure since I haven't brewed in so long I forgot the aroma of that variety.

Anyway, no IBU or alcohol content listed, but good enough to chase down the Italian sausage (sorry, turkey Italian sausage) I had for dinner. Not on my list for a future purchase, but then again I wouldn't kick your crotch if you showed up in my basement with a six either. But for $10, you could definitely do better, chum. A twisty even! 12 oz bottle. ID

Sobieski Vodka

I know, no posts in 3+ years and now all this. But I'm drowning sorrows as the Stars beat the Hawks 5-4 with another "stellar" (read sarcastic) performance by Huet in goal.

Anyway, this is a superb vodka for the $16.99 price tag on the 1.75L. Smooth even when warm. Stands against many with much higher price tags. Very smooth tip of the tongue, with a little bite at the back of the throat. 80 proof. MB

West Coast IPA

On my 2nd bottle. Not much of an aroma, but a hoppy treat with pronounced bitterness. Not too thick with a refreshing citrus. Sno-Globe like precipitate in my glass. MB

12 oz bottle. Church key required. 95 IBUs. 7.3% Alc. by Vol.

Ratings

I'll try to describe what I like/not about each beer, and rate them as well. I've used a number of scales in the past, but have decided here to go with the simplicity of a 3-point scale. Each beverage will be rated as:

MB = "Must Buy" a worthy drink
ID = "It'll Do" wet and something more
SK = "Skunk" better to distill some of your own urine

Finally A Purpose!

I created this blog years ago, but found no reason to blog. Like a shot of Malort it hit me today that this should be the place to record and share my love of beer and more. Though I have a want to retro fill in all the stuff I've tried, and find my old lists, No. Today I begin again. If you find this useful, Cheers!
